Scout Picks: GW21

Gameweek 21 kicks off on Saturday with an injury-ridden Malmö side taking on bottom-dwellers Örebro in a fixture that screams one way traffic. Can Mjällby keep up their rate of clean sheets and will Hjalmar Ekdal ever stop scoring goals?

Goalkeeper

Johan Dahlin 6.3m
Since returning from injury, Johan Dahlin has managed 6 clean sheets and 8 defensive bonus points in 9 games. One of the few “nailed on” options at Malmö ahead of a good run of fixtures, Dahlin looks primed for solid returns.

Defenders

Martin Olsson 7.4m
Martin Olsson could have realistically been rested this Gameweek if the options weren’t so limited for Malmö on the flanks. Without the availability of Felix Beijmo and Niklas Moisander, as well as Eric Larsson facing a one match ban, Olsson is likely to be needed once more unless ofcourse Malmö opt for using a midfielder in that role or switch the formation. The options are limited however, and they need the points as much as fantasy managers do - Olsson has 1 assist, 3 clean sheets, 3 offensive and 4 defensive bonus points in his 5 last games.

Edvin Kurtulus 5.0m
Halmstad defence continue to look solid and Edvin Kurtulus has now averaged 4.25 points per game this season. At home, Halmstad have conceded just 5 goals in 9 games and Sirius are unlikely to provide them with a particularly stern test.

Kadir Hodzic 5.5m
With a goal and 4 clean sheets in his 5 last games, Kadir Hodzic is now back from suspension and ready to take on Elfsborg. Mjällby have been involved in notoriously low scoring affairs at home, with a goal difference of 3-5 in 9 games.

Hjalmar Ekdal 6.2m
We flagged Hjalmar Ekdal last Gameweek as a very good option who was overperforming in the expected goals department and lo and behold, he went and scored again. While the 3 goals in 3 games (from 3 shots on target) is very impressive in and of its own, the underlying numbers for defensive bonus in the meantime have been through the roof! 9 defensive bonus points from his 6 last games could have easily been a few more if there wasn’t a cap on maximum amount of bonus per player and game. A cheeky fourth goal in four games seems a tall order, but the defensive bonus should come, and the clean sheet is far from unlikely away to Östersund.

Midfielders

Anders Christiansen 12.2m
Suspensions, injuries and having his minutes managed for European fixtures has plagued Anders Christiansen’s Allsvenskan Fantasy season so far. Still, he averages 7.91 points per 90 minutes played courtesy of 4 goals, 8 assists, 17 offensive bonus and 7 defensive bonus points in just 1012 minutes. Rotation can not be ruled out with any Malmö assets at this point in time but a home fixture to a struggling Örebro side, with a rested Anders Christiansen chomping at the bits and the league starting to slip out of their grip? Too good to pass up.

Jonathan Levi 8.6m
Jonathan Levi has now registered attacking returns in all of his 5 last games and is faced with a tricky Varberg side in front of the home fans. Levi has scored 1 goal so far this season from an xG of 1.88, with the goalframe denying him on multiple occasions. Crucially, for fantasy purposes, Levi also has a fair share of set piece duties in his locker which tends to show up favourably in the bonus point system.

Magnus Eriksson 9.9m
Magnus Eriksson has now gone a record of 2 (!) games without registering any offensive bonus points. Granted, one of them was away to Malmö but at home to Degerfors in Gameweek 20 you would have been forgiven for expecting more. It could just be a coincidence, or a tactical switch to bring him further forward, taking the chances himself instead of creating them, it is far too early to tell. Nevertheless, an away fixture to Östersund should mean Eriksson is in the points one way or another yet again.

Akinkunmi Amoo 7.0m
In and out of the team since the new coach arrived, Akinkunmi Amoo has shown flashes of brilliance intertwined with extended periods of inconsistency. The young talent is seemingly back in the good books for the time being and is looking extraordinary, scoring 2 goals and an assist, and registering 2 offensive and 2 defensive bonus points in his 2 last games.

Oliver Berg 7.3m
Oliver Berg has given Kalmar quite a few points this season, as he has done to his owners in Allsvenskan Fantasy as well. An away fixture to an out of sorts Göteborg side struggling to come to terms with he results this season could prove lucrative for Berg-backers.

Forwards

Nikola Djurdjic 6.9m
The ex-Helsingborg, Malmö and Hammarby player Nikola Djurdjic got on the scoresheet after three successive blanks since joining the team, and it will surprise very few who are veterans to Allsvenskan that they came against Djurgården. This week he is faced with another Stockholm club, AIK, who will be missing key players Alexander Milosevic and Sebastian Larsson through suspension.

Captain Pick

Every week in the Scout Picks, a captain is selected from the 11 chosen players. The Captain Pick is meant to give some guidance into who has the biggest potential for points this Gameweek and who looks relatively safe, according to the Scout.

This Gameweek the Captain Pick is Anders Christiansen who, given any kind of real minutes against Örebro, should be able to register attacking returns and bonus points. The risk of bench duty ahead of a Champions League tie should be mitigated somewhat with regards to the state of the amount of absentees Malmö already have, and the position as chasers for the league rather than defending a lead.
